E-mail certificates are intended for using an organization's individual e-mail addresses, which are monitored by several people. The recipient of e-mail messages arriving at these addresses is a unit or department in the organization, not an individual employee. Examples of such addresses are e-mail addresses used for transmitting
- a registrar
- an order
- a notification
- operation requests
where incoming messages include confidential information connected with the processing of the matter.
Encrypted messages sent to an organization's e-mail address are opened using an e-mail certificate. The certificate may be used for electronic signatures on outbound messages as well.
As a file-based certificate, no card readers or separate software are needed for using an e-mail certificate issued by the Population Register Centre. The e-mail certificate works for most e-mail software supporting S/MIME messages.
