Population Register Centre
The basic task of the Population Register Centre is to enable usage of the data contained in the Population Information System and the PRC's certified electronic services to support society's functions and information services and management. Through its activity, the PRC promotes the protection of privacy and personal data as well as information security and the development of and compliance with good data processing and data management practices.
Together with the local register offices, the Population Register Centre is the data controller for the Finnish Population Information System. The PRC maintains and develops the Population Information System, its data and data quality as well as certified electronic services. The PRC offers Population Information System information services and certificate services. It also performs duties related to elections.
The Population Register Centre implements together with the Ministry of Finance the National Architecture for Digital Services.
The Population Register Centre was founded in 1969 and it operates under the Ministry of Finance. The offices are located in Sörnäinen, Helsinki, at Lintulahdenkuja 4 and in Kokkola, at Rantakatu 16. The Centre employs some 130 persons.
The Population Register Centre does not process matters concerned with individual citizens’ personal information. Local Register Offices
serve citizens with all matters connected with population register
management – such as, for example, notifications of move, checking one's
own information, correction or amendment of personal information,
prohibitions on information disclosure and the issuing of certificates
concerning individual citizens' information. You can also check your
personal information on the Internet at no charge by using the
Population Register Centre’s Check Your Registered Data! service.
The Population Register Centre is responsible for the Population Information System’s information service for the public authorities as well as for many companies. We try to respond as soon as possible to questions concerning the transfer and use of information as well as to feedback.
